Brian Notch is entering his 1st season as head wrestling coach at Laguna Hills high school after two years at Centennial high school in Corona California. Before Centennial, Coach Notch spent 10 years at West Torrance high school in Torrance California, one year at The Kinkaid School in Houston Texas, and two years at Klein Cain high school in Spring Texas. Coach Notch enters his 16th season as a head coach and 18th overall. In 10 seasons at West Torrance Coach Notch guided the wrestling program to 9 straight League Championships, 9 CIF Dual meet berths, and garnered South Bay Daily Breeze Wrestling Coach of the Year honors (09 & 13). In his 15 full seasons as head coach, Coach Notch has produced 36 state qualifiers, 9 state place winners, 1 state runner-up, 1 state champion, 2 prep All-Americans, 1 prep national champion, 10 masters place winners, 2 masters’ finalists, 37 masters’ qualifiers, 10 CIF champions, 16 CIF finalists, 45 CIF place winners, and overall dual meet record of 186 wins and 65 losses. In 2013, the Warriors were both CIF Dual and CIF individual tournament runners-up, Masters meet 8th place, and state tournament 26th place. 2021 was a short season due to Covid-19 but Centennial posted a 12-2 dual meet record and captured the programs 21st league title. In 2022, Centennial won the CIF Coastal division tournament, finished in 11th place at the Masters meet, and Coach Notch was named Big VIII Coach of the Year. Brian Notch is a native of both Torrance, California and Kingsley, Iowa where he graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 2000. While attending Kingsley-Pierson high school Coach Notch participated in football, wrestling, and baseball. Upon graduation Coach Notch attended both Briar Cliff University and Buena Vista University where he participated in wrestling and baseball. A 2005 graduate of Briar Cliff University, coach Notch currently holds a B.A. in physical education/health, a M.A. in Education, secondary teaching credential in physical education/health and special education and a M.S. in Physical Education. Coach Notch has taught physical education/health at West Torrance high school, The Kinkaid School, he taught physical education classes and supervised ISS at Klein Cain high school, taught physical education/special education at Centennial high school, and currently teaches Coach Notch resides in Corona, Ca and has been married to his lovely wife Jill for 8 years, together they have 3 children, Rocky (6), Rory (5), and Nixie (1) and one dog Ziggy.
Coach Cliff Jarmie, who came out of retirement to guide the program last year, will remain as the Director of Wrestling, helping with tournaments, home dual matches, administrative duties, and fundraising. Coach Jarmie will also oversee the and coordinate the three wrestling entities at LHHS: the Boys’ program, the Girls’ program and the Hawkeye Wrestling Club for youth.
